Military Industrial Engineering

The joint study program of basic academic studies "Military Industrial Engineering" of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Kragujevac and the Military Academy of the University of Defense in Belgrade contains all the elements determined by law.
 
The study program "Military Industrial Engineering" is a program of basic academic studies that lasts four years, has a total of 240 ECTS credits. The academic title that students acquire upon completion of this study program is "graduate engineer of industrial engineering".
 
Candidates are enrolled on the basis of a joint competition announced by the implementers of the joint study program. The conditions for enrollment in the study program and other most important elements of the study program and study regime are prescribed by the Statute of the Faculty of Engineering, the Statute of the Military Academy and the Rulebook on the regime of basic and master academic studies of the Faculty of Engineering. The conditions for enrollment are the completion of a four-year high school and passing the entrance exam in mathematics. The order of candidates for enrollment is determined on the basis of the general success achieved in secondary education and the results achieved at the entrance exam. The study program prescribes compulsory and elective courses. Also, the study program envisages professional practice, research work on the theoretical basis of the final (graduate) thesis and preparation of the final (graduate) thesis.

The goals of the study program are to educate military engineers in military-industrial engineering who should:
 
  • master the knowledge underlying theoretical disciplines and natural sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, thermodynamics) and are able to apply them in the field of industrial engineering, which allows the transfer of new technologies in the exploitation and maintenance of machinery and weapons and military equipment ,
  • accept scientific methodology in the context of engineering needs and activities: a) understand the role of formal models and results of natural sciences in understanding and designing technical systems, b) are able to apply known methods and techniques and c) are able to evaluate arguments, assumptions, concepts and data, in order to properly judge and contribute to solving complex problems,
  • acquire technical and technological knowledge and skills necessary for solving problems and tasks related to weapons: construction, maintenance (preventive and corrective) and storage (conservation),
  • be developed as complete, aware and responsible persons of broad general culture, who will show independence, creativity and initiative in the creative application of acquired knowledge and skills and the development of the ability to take a leadership position in their immediate environment,
  • understand, at the introductory level, the most important research issues, become aware of connections with other disciplines and have the ability to describe and comment on those connections,
  • be trained to work in a team and in the context of larger projects,
  • acquire the ability to present information, ideas, problems and solutions to experts in the field, as well as those who do not have specialties related to the field of exhibition,
  • be aware of how their profession can be affected in the context of ethical, aesthetic, social, security, economic and environmental issues and values,
  • be trained in lifelong learning for academic and / or professional training;
  • possess the knowledge necessary for the proper exploitation and maintenance of weapons systems, lethal weapons and military equipment,
  • are able to communicate with local and foreign experts from their own and other fields, using professional terminology.
The study program of basic academic studies "Military Industrial Engineering" is so specified that the student acquires general and subject-specific competencies that are recognized by leading European higher education institutions and associations dealing with education of engineering staff, but also from the standpoint of defense industry needs.
 
By mastering the study program, the student acquires the following general competencies:
 
  • analyzes engineering problems in terms of: a) identification, understanding, formulation and problem solving based on the system of acquired fundamental knowledge, b) analysis and evaluation of products, processes and procedures in accordance with key elements of system theory and c) selection, application and development of suitable methods for analysis, modeling, simulation and optimization,
  • uses modern engineering tools for modeling, simulation, calculations and design,
  • understands the principles of analysis and synthesis, construction and design of machines, devices, engineering software and processes applied in the military-industrial sector of the economy, at the level of acquired academic knowledge of basic sciences and engineering disciplines,
  • uses professional literature and understands the application of learned techniques and methods, including their limitations, in solving specific problems in the field of military-industrial engineering,
  • develops communication skills and masters the skills of presentation of matter, cooperation with the narrower working, social and international environment, and communicates the results of work to the professional and wider scientific public in a clear and unambiguous manner,
  • combines acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to analyze and solve specific engineering problems by applying critical and self-critical thinking and approach,
  • is able to evaluate and use information from a wide range of engineering and other disciplines in the context of understanding a specific problem,
  • understand relationships in the broader context of economic, environmental and ethical issues.

    By mastering the study program, the student acquires the following subject-specific competencies:

    solving specific problems that occur during the operation and maintenance of machine systems by applying and connecting knowledge acquired during studies,
    critically analyze the characteristics of modern weapons systems and ammunition, get acquainted with the basics of construction and the principles of their functioning, as well as functional analysis of assemblies and parts of weapons,
    monitors and implements innovations and modernizations of machine systems in use in the Serbian Army and the Ministry of Defense,
    understands the basics of technology for the production and maintenance of weapons and ammunition.
    Description of learning outcomes

    By attending the study program of basic academic studies "Military Industrial Engineering", the student acquires a broad basis of engineering knowledge, skills and experience, but also specialized knowledge, which should make him confident and able to individually and in team contribute to solving specific problems in the field of military industrial engineering. and to provide him with a completely adequate basis for continuing his education.

    Expected knowledge outcomes, defined through appropriate knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes are as follows:

    knowledge of fundamental disciplines in the field of industrial engineering, and for the needs of the purpose-built industry (mathematics, thermodynamics, mechanics, ballistics, technology, etc.) at the level expected of engineers in this field in EU countries,
    mastery of computer tools, programming skills and the use of information and communication technologies and available modern research equipment, relevant to the field of military-industrial engineering,
    mastering the broader context of perceiving engineering problems, which means taking into account economic, environmental, organizational and social relations in the field of military-industrial engineering, in order to improve existing practices,
    mastery of specific knowledge and skills acquired through laboratory work, work on project tasks and professional practice, which includes: knowledge of instrumentation, technology, technical means and elements, important concepts of system integration, production and maintenance, organization and other subject-specific areas,
    possession of specific knowledge about the processes and phenomena during the operation of the weapons system, lethal means and missile technology, in order to assess the situation, and in order to maintain the means;
    design and calculation of weapons system assemblies and application in the analysis of the construction of its parts or assemblies as a whole,
    understanding the technology of maintenance, storage and transport of munitions, as well as the creation of relevant technical documentation in the process of construction of munitions in weapons,
    skill of calculation of artillery weapon assemblies and application in the analysis of the construction of its parts or weapons as a whole,
    possessing the ability of enterprising problem solving, managing complex projects (independently and with full responsibility), organizing, controlling and training others to work in the field of military-industrial engineering,
    acquiring the skills of managing and leading complex communication, interaction and cooperation with various professional profiles in the dedicated industry and the market.
    Engineers of basic academic studies of Military Industrial Engineering can be employed in: various companies engaged in the production of weapons and military equipment from the defense industry, as well as in research and development institutions at the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia, working on new products and existing with domestic and foreign companies have the prospect of becoming part of the technical and technological flywheel of the overall industrial development of the country.
